Nairobi Fashion Week

Nairobi Fashion Week has grown into the most prominent platform for African fashion design in East Africa. Over four days in October, emerging and established designers from Kenya and across the continent present new collections through runway shows, exhibitions, and industry panels held across venues in Nairobi. The event reflects the pace at which Nairobi has positioned itself as the creative capital of the region.

What the event covers

The programme combines runway shows with designer workshops, pop-up retail, and networking events. Womenswear and menswear shows dominate the runway schedule, with a growing presence of accessories, textile art, and experimental design. Participating designers come from Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and beyond, making the shows a genuine cross-section of contemporary African fashion rather than a purely local showcase.

Panel discussions and masterclasses run alongside the runway events, covering themes such as sustainable production, African fabric traditions, and building export markets for African fashion brands. These sessions are often open to a wider audience beyond the fashion industry.

The Nairobi fashion scene

Nairobi’s fashion industry is substantial and increasingly export-facing. The city has a concentration of design studios, fabric markets (Gikomba and Eastleigh are the largest), and fashion schools that feed into the industry. Nairobi Fashion Week is the public face of that ecosystem rather than a standalone event.
